“Absolutely pick Katherine Edwards to be your officiant. Our ceremony was phenomenal and we received many compliments from guests who thought that our ceremony was lovely and thoughtful. I’m not an overly touchy-feely person, but I really felt like our welcoming message, wedding address, and vows (which we were able to select and combine from Katherine’s per-prepared remarks) came together to create a ceremony that was perfect for my husband and me. She offers both religious and non-religious options and is incredibly easy (and pleasant!) to work with. I am so glad we picked Katherine to be our officiant and would highly recommend her as an officiant to any friend.”

“Katherine was AMAZING throughout the entire process! She was so willing to be flexible in our plans and patient with us as we decided on a date that worked with our family. She has such a kind spirit and felt as if she was a part of our family on our wedding day. We are so happy to have had her there for us. She explained every step so thoroughly, maintained great speed in her messages back and forth with us, and was overall the most thoughtful person for our day.”

“Several people at our reception complimented us on Katherine and asked how we found her because she did such a great job. She is very easy to talk to and guided us through the process smoothly. Katherine helped us recognize details we did not consider. We joked that whenever we sent her an email we knew we would have a reply when we woke up the next morning because all of her responses came at 6am. We really appreciated her responsiveness and professionalism. On the day of she was a calming, reassuring presence!”

“There are not enough words to describe how wonderful Katherine Edwards is, both as a person and an officiant. My husband and I aren’t particularly religious, so we were looking for someone who would work with us to create a meaningful, customized ceremony that reflected our love and relationship, while also being entertaining and engaging for our guests. Katherine provided all of that and more. The ceremony was exactly what we had envisioned and everyone in attendance said it was the most unique, moving, personalized wedding they had ever been to.

Katherine was a pleasure to work with from day one – we instantly clicked with her. She was incredibly kind, considerate, and absolutely determined to provide a sweet and personalized ceremony for us. Throughout the entire process, Katherine was responsive, encouraging, and attentive, offering feedback and guidance on factors like time and length, plus a few ideas that turned out to be perfect additions to the ceremony. We decided to write our own vows, and Katherine graciously (and patiently) read each draft to make sure they complemented each other.

On the day of the wedding, we felt comfortable, confident, and entirely at ease knowing that Katherine had everything under control. She delivered the ceremony beautifully, and managed to make what was already a perfect day even better. It can be hard to remember the more practical details of getting married when it’s the actual day, but with Katherine there we didn’t have to – she handled all of the logistics of the marriage license, including getting the witness signatures returning it to the Register of Deeds, and sending us a follow up email with important info.

We obviously couldn’t have tied the knot without Katherine, but we also wouldn’t have wanted to. She made the most important part of the wedding day the least stressful, and we are so grateful to have found her. You won’t find a warmer, sweeter, more positive or more capable officiant anywhere.”

“Katherine is truly amazing and it was an honor to have her be apart of our wedding. She is such a kind, genuine soul. The ceremony she performed for our wedding ceremony was absolutely perfect. look no further, she is the best!!”

Kelly & Forest at the Stockroom 230

Kelly & Forest’s original plan for their ceremony was to have it at Umstead Park in Raleigh and have their reception at the Stockroom 230 downtown after. The rain back up plan would be to hold everything at the Stockroom and a few weeks prior to the ceremony they decided to just go ahead and do that. That ended up being a really good decision, as it was raining most of the afternoon!

Secretly, I was kind of happy about that because I have done ceremonies at Umstead Park in the past, but the Stockroom was one of those venues I hadn’t seen yet and I really wanted to check it out! It is a really neat industrial-looking space with exposed brick, wood floors, and beam ceilings. There is plenty of room for both ceremony and reception, and a little landing area that’s perfect for cocktail hour.

Another neat feature at the Stockroom is the Glass Box on the top floor of the same building that can be rented as well. It can be used for smaller events, bridal luncheons, showers, or as a changing area for the bride and her ‘maids. That is what Kelly did!

There were lots of lovely details throughout their ceremony and reception spaces, but I particularly loved the chalk wall! The bridesmaids walked in to the Etta James version of, “I Want a Sunday Kind of Love,” so this was really perfect. Plus, it was a Sunday! The chalk wall was done by AB Chalk Designs.

Kelly and Forest included some really cool elements in their ceremony, including a presentation of roses to Kelly’s mother, a sand ceremony, and a shell wishing with a twist. Since we weren’t at the beach to toss the stones into the water, guests instead collected them in a large glass vessel that the couple could display in their home!

Kelly & Forest’s best man and maid of honor signed the license following the ceremony while guests mingled for cocktail hour.

The couple was kind enough to leave this review for me on Wedding Wire:

“Katherine did the best job for our wedding! She was so easy to work with and so helpful in planning and answering all our questions. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a wedding officiant on their big day. She had the best attitude and all our guests commented how great of a job she did. Thanks again Katherine for everything!”

Intimate Ceremony at The Second Empire

Is this your first time here? Start at the Welcome Page!

April 19th was a busy day for me this year! After Lisa & Rodney’s elopement in Selma, I headed to The Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern in on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh to marry Stephanie & Andrew. I’m sure with the weather that day they were pleased to have planned an indoor ceremony!

The Second Empire is a fine dining establishment in the heart of downtown Raleigh. The beautiful historic home (Dodd-Hinsdale House), coupled with the picturesque downtown location make it perfect for wedding ceremonies and receptions! The venue offers a variety of wedding packages that include the use of different rooms in the home, as well as different dining options. The restaurant can also host your bridal shower or luncheon!

Stephanie and Andrew chose to have their ceremony in the beautiful bay window of the East Parlor. This area holds about 30 people, so it is perfect for small ceremonies. Their intimate reception with close friends and family was held immediately following in the adjoining room.

The ceremony itself was very short, because that is exactly what the couple wanted and my goal is for them to have what they want! I think my favorite part was seeing Stephanie escorted down the aisle by her 16 year-old twin boys, Hayes and Trevor.

Stephanie was kind enough to leave a review for me on Wedding Wire following the ceremony: “Katherine was very easy to work with and gave us several suggestions that helped things run smoothly. I would highly recommend her for your wedding!!”

Stephanie and Andrew, it was my pleasure to marry you on your special day, thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of it!
